Tübingen-based SHS Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsmanagement mbH is selling its shares in Puracon GmbH to Klingel medical metal group, a portfolio company of IK Investment Partners. With 600 employees, Klingel medical metal group is one of the leading companies in the field of precision machining of complex materials such as stainless steel, titanium and plastics for the manufacture of medical technology products. By purchasing Puracon, Klingel can utilise valuable synergies as an order developer, producer and packager and can offer its worldwide medical technology customers a complete service range “from one source”. For Klingel, this is already the third acquisition since it became part of IK Investment Partners in 2018.

Tübingen-based SHS Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsmanagement mbH has been active as an investor in the field of medical technology and life science for more than two decades. Thus, SHS is among the most experienced companies in this sector and is now investing from the fifth fund generation.

At the end of 2015, SHS purchased a stake in Puracon GmbH from Rosenheim. As a full-service partner for the medtech industry, Puracon offers efficient packaging and validation solutions for medical technology products, particularly implants and instruments. Puracon is thus part of the validated process chain of implants and the last stop before the sterile product is used in the hospital on the patient.

“With the Klingel medical metal group, Puracon is in a position to achieve further, targeted growth. Klingel thinks long-term; the company has been on the market since 1986 and is today one of the leading providers in its field,” says Sascha Alilovic, managing partner at SHS. “Our objective was to support Puracon on the way to profitable growth. We have done that, and now it is time to ignite the next stage – Klingel is the perfect partner for this.”

With the acquisition, Ralf Petrawitz, managing partner and CEO of Klingel medical metal, plans to expand his range of services for his worldwide medical technology customers significantly. “Puracon is a very good addition to our already comprehensive range of services for our sophisticated customers from the field of medical technology. We are now also able to offer services from the field of packaging in the Klingel Group. We are thus strengthening our competitive position in a targeted manner and making ourselves fit for the future.”

Ruth Geßner, managing director of Puracon, is also satisfied with this development: “Together with SHS, we as the Puracon team has significantly expanded our customer base in the last five years, thus generating strong growth. With the Klingel Group, we will take the next step and achieve synergies from which both our customers and our employees will benefit. We look forward to the collaboration!”
